How does online fundraising work?

Online fundraising allows charities to collect donations online. You are able to set up your own fundraising page where your sponsors' donations will be sent to charity on your behalf.

Does the money donated via online fundraising pages go to Choose a Challenge or direct to my charity?

Any sponsorship donated via online fundraising pages will not go to Choose a Challenge but instead will be passed from the online fundraising provider to your charity.

If you do not fundraise the minimum amount of sponsorship required to participate in your challenge then you are faced with two options: 1. You pay the outstanding amount of sponsorship with your own funds, or 2. You forfeit your place on the challenge and you lose any monies already paid.

Can I continue fundraising for my charity after my challenge?

Do I need to tell you how much I have fundraised?

No. Details from your online fundraising page will be updated automatically on our website.

What are offline donations?

Offline donations are funds which you have been sponsored but which have not been donated via your online fundraising page. Typically these donations will either be cash or cheque.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid allows individuals who are subject to UK income tax, to complete a simple, short declaration that they are a UK taxpayer. Any cash donations that the taxpayer makes to the charity after making a declaration are treated as being made after deduction of income tax at the basic rate (22% in 2006/7), and the charity can reclaim the basic rate income tax paid on the gift from HMRC. For a basic-rate taxpayer, this adds approximately 28% to the value of any gift made under Gift Aid.

Are there any rules / regulations with regards to fundraising?

Yes. Information can be found here.
