Diving with sharks is a fantastic way to raise funds for charity. No previous experience is required and you are guaranteed to enjoy some breathtaking close encounters with these incredible creatures.
After arrival at the aquarium you'll be taken through to a classroom in a small group (usually of 6) where you're talked through the format of the day, taught basic diving techniques and given a briefing on the sharks you'll see.
You should learn some strange new facts, like the fact that sharks have 7 senses, their liver accounts for 30% of their body mass and they have a conveyor belt of replaceable teeth. Next, you'll fill out the necessary forms and get a chance to ask any last minute questions you might have, the most important one being: When were they last fed?
The classroom session lasts for around 30 minutes, after which you'll be taken to the kit store to be provided with a wet suit and breathing apparatus. Once kitted up, you'll climb into a swimming pool to practice the PADI scuba diving techniques you've been taught.
You'll be escorted into the tank in pairs (this challenge is ideal to do with a friend) by three highly qualified diving instructors, who'll lead you to strategic points around the aquarium. As you're making your way to the first stop point you'll get to grips with just how many sharks there are in the tank - enough for a dentist convention! The sharks come over to investigate, coming so close that you could reach out and give them a cuddle - literally inches away.
This challenge includes two free spectator passes, so if you've brought along friends and family then they'll be able to observe you (and take photos!) through the underwater walkway and viewing area, with the added luxury of 6cm glass.
Once your dive is over, and you're back on dry land, you'll have a new found appreciation for these beautiful animals and a memory which will last a life time.
