What is The Great Nottingham Jump?
The Event
The Great Nottingham Jump is an extreme charity skydiving event. On Sunday 9th May over 60 students, staff and graduates will be taken to a local Drop Zone where they will jump out of a plane in the name of charity. Transport, entertainment, training, tandem skydive and carbon offset are all included.
Tandem Skydiving
Tandem skydiving is the most popular skydiving course for first time skydivers. Absolutely no previous experience is required as all training is provided. After basic instruction of around 30 minutes you will be securely strapped to a highly skilled tandem instructor who will guide you through the entire jump. You will then be flown to around 12,000ft where you will jump out of the aircraft, immediately accelerating to a terminal velocity of over 120mph. Once in freefall your instructor will perform a series of 360 degree turns to give you a birds eye view of the Earth below. At 6,000 ft your instructor will open the parachute immediately transforming the adrenaline fuelled rush of freefall into serine peacefulness as you are safely flown to the landing area under a specially designed parachute.
You are able to buy a DVD for your tandem skydive so that this once in a lifetime experience can be enjoyed over and over and over again. For more information about tandem DVDs please click here.
Transport
Coaches will be used to transport you to and from the dropzone. You will be picked up from the Hallward Library Car Park and the Savoy Cinema. Pick ups will be made early on Saturday morning and you will be dropped off back to the same locations as soon as all skydives are complete. The latest you will de dropped back is Saturday night.
Location
The drop zone we will be using is called Hibaldstow Airfield which is located in North Lincolnshire.
Weather
Skydiving is a weather dependant challenge. We will work flat out to ensure that all skydives are completed on Saturday. However, you do need to be aware of weather restrictions. Some types of weather will prohibit you from skydiving. These types of weather include, but are not limited to, strong or gusty wind, rain, hail, sleet, snow, fog and low cloud. If the weather prohibits us from completing all skydives then we will arrange an alternative date for you to complete your skydive.
Clothing
You are encouraged to wear comfortable, warm and loose fitting clothing. Multiple layers are advised to provide warmth. Shoes should be laced, flat soled and comfortable. A jumpsuit, goggles, gloves and a helmet will all be provided. If you wear glasses or contact lenses then you will be able to wear these underneath the goggles provided.
Food
There is a small canteen at the drop zone where you can purchase breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. If you wish to bring your own food and drink then this is fine.
Friends, family and spectators
Friends and family are permitted to come to the drop zone to watch you complete your skydive. Please make them aware that due to weather constraints we cannot let you know what time you will complete your skydive and so they could be waiting all day if the weather is not suitable for skydiving. Friends and family will need to make their own plans for transportation to and from the drop zone.
Insurance
Third Party Legal Liability and Death And Critical Injury Insurance is provided by the British Parachute Association (BPA) and this is included in the cost of your skydive. This insurance is not personal accident insurance and this may not be adequate for your requirements. You are strongly encouraged to view the policy documentation prior to your skydive and to privately arrange any extra insurance, where necessary, at your own expense.
Restrictions
Medical: You must sign a Declaration of Fitness before you undertake your skydive. You must declare that you are physically fit and that you do not, and have not, suffered from any of the following medical conditions: epilepsy, fits, severe head injury, recurrent blackouts or giddiness, disease of the brain or nervous system, high blood pressure, heart or lung disease, dislocated shoulder, recurrent weakness or dislocation of any limb, diabetes, mental illness, drug or alcohol addiction. If you have had any of the above conditions then you must obtain the doctor's certificate on the bottom part of the Declaration of Fitness before parachuting. You will need to print off this form and get it signed by your doctor prior to the day of your skydive. This is not N.H.S. work and your doctor may charge for this. A specific appointment may need to be made. If you have not suffered from any of the above conditions and you will be at least 18 years of age and less than 40 years of age on the day of your skydive then you do not need to print this form as it will be provided on the day of your skydive.
Age: The minimum age for skydiving is 16. If you will be under 16 years of age on the day of your skydive then you will not be permitted to undertake your skydive. If you will be at least 16 years of age and less than 18 years of age on the day of your skydive then you will require your parent or guardian to sign the Declaration of Fitness as your witness. If you will be 40 years of age or over on the date of your skydive then you must obtain the doctor's certificate on the bottom part of the Declaration of Fitness before parachuting. In this scenario you will need to print off this form and get it signed by your doctor prior to the day of your skydive. This is not N.H.S. work and your doctor may charge for this. A specific appointment may need to be made.
Weight: The maximum weight limit for a tandem skydive is 16 stone (100 kgs).
