Knowing that your child may die before you do, is the unthinkable reality that thousands of families across Scotland have to cope with every day. Children’s Hospices Across Scotland – better known as CHAS – is dedicated to supporting every single member of these families as they face the toughest challenge of their lives.

For over 20 years we have been caring for families and their babies, children and young people by offering palliative care, family respite and support. During this time we have built two hospices, developed our outreach service, CHAS at Home, and established a presence in hospitals. We have initiated research, represented families at the highest levels and campaigned for improvements to palliative care in Scotland. However, at the heart of this is our absolute commitment to supporting children and families when they need it most.

Jack, Nicola and I were only under the care of CHAS for around 18 months but it feels like we received a decade’s worth of care, experiences and love. We are still receiving support from CHAS and value the association that we have with this charity. In the early days of our time at Rachel House I would sit and think “what are we doing here”. Jack was doing so well. Jack’s care seemed far less than many of the children that were staying there. Was there children out there that needed to be there more than Jack? Now having lost Jack I know why we were there. That was to make memories, memories that will live with us forever.
— Jack’s dad, Bruce Edmond

No matter how short their time together may be, we promise to make it a time filled with happiness and fun, to provide experiences they cannot have elsewhere, and to create precious memories and special moments that families can treasure forever.

Each week in Scotland, three children die because they have a life-shortening condition. Currently, CHAS are only able to reach one of those families to provide them the love, care and support they deserve. We will not stop until we reach every family who needs us – and you can help us achieve this mission.

Still don’t know what charity to support?

If you’re still unsure of which charity to choose to support, that’s not a problem! We’d recommend getting in touch with each charity that you’d like to support. They’ll be able to discuss how they’ll be able to support you on your journey, and what your money will be going towards.
