Unfortunately, there may come a time during training for your challenge that you become a little bored of your #ThrowbackThursday playlist. It simply doesn’t cut it anymore. For many a long walk or run with just our thoughts is unbearable. But, do not fear. Podcasts are here to save the day! Getting hooked on podcasts whilst running will allow you to train your body and mind at the same time (2 for the price of 1 – great!).

Here are 4 podcasts that will help the miles disappear.

Serial (Season 1)
One of the most popular podcasts out there. Made by the creators of This American Life, Sarah Koenig (an NPR reporter) takes it upon herself to solve a Baltimore homicide which is decades old. Start from the beginning and listen in order. Koenig looks into an old murder case from 1999 in which a young girl, Hae Min Lee went missing and a few weeks later her body was found. Her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, was charged with the murder. He has always protested his innocence. Over 15 years after the event Koenig is in touch with Adnan and is trawling through the evidence. Nothing is clear cut and Koenig herself changes her mind throughout on if Adnan did or didn’t commit the murder.  It is one of the most compelling stories and podcasts and will make you want to keep on running.

My Dad Wrote a Porno
Yes, his dad did write a porno and he took it upon himself to read it chapter by chapter with some friends and record it as a podcast. Jamie Morton shares his feelings on his father’s attempt to write an erotic fiction novel, Belinda Blinked. Joined by friends James Cooper and Alice Levine, Jamie reads and deconstructs each chapter through laughter and tears. Following Celinda Blumenthal, a sales director for Steele’s Pots and Pans through sex crazed charity tombolas and non-sexual regional meetings. Many phrases in the story simply don’t make sense. However, it does make for great listening.

**Do not listen to this whilst on a treadmill, your bursts of laughter may cause you to almost fall off!**

Running Commentary
If you after something a little more chatty then Running Commentary is for you. Comedians Paul Tonkinson and Rob Deering talk about everything and nothing (running included) whilst running. It feels like you are running/walking just behind them and eavesdropping in on the conversation. Perfect for that lone training session as they discuss what they got up to on the weekend, their upcoming comedy gigs and sights on their runs.

**Super useful if you live in London as they discuss their London running routes.**

The Mystery Show
Hosted by Starlee Kine who investigates (and solves) a new mystery with each podcast. The beauty of this mystery based podcast is that the mystery cannot be solved via the internet. Solving mysteries such as why has the local video shop shut down? How tall is Jake Gyllenhaal? Case #2 sees the author of a self-help book ask how Britney Spears got hold of her book and what her opinion was of it after seeing Britney photographed with it. The centrepiece of this episode is a conversation with a Ticketmaster customer service representative. A masterclass in storytelling that wanders from the point around in circles and then back to the point again. This is delightfully distracting and will have you thinking so much about the mystery that your training will fly by.
