We were founded by two individuals passionate for leading challenges and making a lasting difference to charities. Over the last 9 years, Choose a Challenge has evolved dramatically and now raises over £2.5 million yearly for a range of incredible causes, sending students and young people all over the world.

Our Mission

We believe adventure is the key to life.

...and what better way to see the world, than through raising money for an incredible cause? We want to help make a difference to those most in need, and we believe students have the skills and the passion to be at the heart of creating this change.

When you get involved a challenge event, not only do you guarantee yourself the trip of a lifetime, you guarantee that you are going to change the lives of others.

Our History

Life began when we were founded at the base of the world's tallest free standing, Mount Kilimanjaro back in 2008.

Now many years later, we are the largest student charity challenge company in the UK, taking over 1500 18-25 year olds on expeditions of a lifetime every year. With an experienced team hailing from all walks of life and travelling to over 200 different countries between us we truly believe we are the best team to take you on a once in a lifetime adventure.

Our Staff

Tom Petrie - Client Relationship Manager My role in the Choose a Challenge team all about our charities, along with our participants they lie at the heart of what we do. I am here to make sure that we always have a fantastic range of causes available to support across our challenges, and that the incredible charities we do partner with have an incredible journey with us right from the word go. Whether it be some of our charities who I have worked with for over 5 years, or even new charities that have just joined the partnership our aim is to help them raise as much money for the people who need it most!

Tom Coussens - Challenges Manager Since starting at university, challenges have been a massive part of my life, starting as a Challenge Leader taking my team to Kilimanjaro I have been lucky enough to trek to Machu Picchu and Everest Base Camp and spent a week in the Brazilian jungle. Emma Bennett - Operations Manager Emma was bitten by the travel bug young and by the time she'd finished her A levels she had left England to live in Greece for two years with spells inter-railing around Eastern Europe. After finishing her degree she spent six years as a tour leader specialising in trekking trips and was lucky enough to climb in Ecuador, Brazil, Tanzania, Nepal and North Korea amongst other destinations. She now puts that knowledge to good use heading up our operations team here in our head office.

Francesca Brown - Logistics Coordinator I take care of the behind the scenes stuff here at Choose a Challenge. I organise all the logistics of our challenges so the only thing you have to worry about is training and remembering your passport!  Travel is my biggest passion with gorilla trekking in Rwanda, chasing the Northern Lights in Iceland and seeing the big 5 in Tanzania being some of my favourite moments. Up until now my furthest run has been a half marathon but being involved with so many amazing marathons the pressure is on for me to make my 26.2 mile debut!

Lucy Dalglish - Challenges Coordinator   Back in 2014 I took part in my first ever challenge: summiting Mount Kilimanjaro. I loved the whole experience, so much so that over the next two years I decided to lead my own team of students to take on the Machu Picchu trek and the Amsterdam Marathon. This year I'm excited to be taking on the trek to Everest Base Camp too. Day to day, I look after all of our participant communications. From phone and email inquiries to passing on information on all things training, visas, insurance and more. It's my job to make sure our fantastic participants and Challenge Leaders have the best challenge experience possible and are fully prepared for their trek or marathon.

Naomi Lucking - Challenges Coordinator I gained a passion for challenges in my first year at University when I conquered Machu Picchu. I later lead a team of fellow students across the finish line at the Budapest Marathon and, since then, I have also run a number of half marathons. Before I became a permanent member of the Choose a Challenge team, I spent a summer out in Cusco looking after students from all over the country trekking to Machu Picchu. It’s my job to ensure that you are fully prepared for your challenge and that you get the most out of the experience that you possibly can.
