We all have hopes and dreams for the future. But it’s not so easy for people with learning disabilities to make them happen.

We’re Learning Disability Allies. Together, we help change the lives of learning disabled people for the better. Providing personalised support. Creating solutions for living independently. Coming together to campaign for positive change. Fundraising for new opportunities and a bigger impact. So every learning disabled person can live the best life possible in a kind and inclusive community.

We have three core priorities:

a.    Enabling learning disabled people to explore opportunities, realise their potential, and thrive

b.    Creating solutions for living their life independently

c.     Changing society so learning disabled people can live their life, their way.

But we can’t fulfil our ambitious plans alone…

Life can be complicated for everybody. But sometimes things are harder for learning disabled people. Together we can change this.

Hft is a national charity that was founded in 1962 to support adults who have a learning disability. We believe that people that have a learning disability should have the right to decide how they live and how they are supported. We currently support more than 2,500 adults across England and Wales. From 24-hour residential care settings to supporting people to live independently in their own homes. Hft helps people with learning disabilities to take part in daily activities, make meaningful relationships, to find work and open up life changing opportunities. We are passionate about fighting the loneliness and isolation of people with learning disabilities and are proactive in advocating for their rights in the political sphere.

We are committed to ensuring that every person with a learning disability can live life to the full. Working in partnership with the people we support, we provide individually-tailored specialist support to enable people to live with as much independence and autonomy as possible.

  • We want a world where everyone with a learning disability can live fully in a community they choose!

  • We want a world where learning disabled people have the opportunity to earn a fair wage in a job they enjoy!

  • We want a world where everyone with a learning disability is treated equally and with kindness!

  • We want a world where everyone with a learning disability feels safe, welcome and included everywhere they go!

  • We want a world where the general public has a better understanding of learning disability!

We believe in a world where anyone with a learning disability can live the best life possible. But we can’t do it alone, please join us to create change for the amazing people we support.

How your support will make a difference!

£25 could fund a member of the Luv2meetU team to support two people on their first date.

£50 could provide someone with a one cup kettle that helps them safely make a cup of tea without needing the assistance of a support worker.

£100 could pay for a key safe, giving someone the freedom to leave the house without worrying they’ll forget their keys.

£200 could fund a video doorbell system, helping to allow someone to live safely and securely in their own home.

£350 could pay for someone to have an epilepsy sensor installed in their bed, meaning staff can be alerted quickly if a seizure is detected.

£500 could buy an adapted bike, giving people a chance to exercise and spend time enjoying the outdoors.

£800 could fund a club night, giving people with learning disabilities the opportunities to socialise and build new relationships.

£1000 could pay to put in place a Positive Behavioural Support plan, complete with sensory equipment suited to a person’s individual needs, to enhance their life.

“As challenge leader, the support from Hft has been incredible. From the beginning, Lauren has scheduled weekly check-in calls  which motivates me to arrange fundraising events and train for my half marathon. She has helped the entire group by organising group meet-ups, and even a tour of the Hft service in Bristol which gave us a real insight into what the money goes towards and a chance to meet the people we are helping, staff and service users. Lauren is consistently active in our team chat, always making sure we are hitting our targets and helping us with brainstorming ideas, certification letters, and general logistics organising. I would be completely lost as a challenge leader without the support I have received from her and the Hft team”

Still don’t know what charity to support?

If you’re still unsure of which charity to choose to support, that’s not a problem! We’d recommend getting in touch with each charity that you’d like to support. They’ll be able to discuss how they’ll be able to support you on your journey, and what your money will be going towards.
