Every year, we make a huge effort to spread challenges and the student fundraising that follows around the UK. After all, it’s what’s created immense memories and funded awesome causes! If you’re reading this, the likelihood is that you’re the first ever Choose a Challenge Leader on your campus. This blog aims to continue that journey.

This is your chance to create your legacy and ensure that your campus remains an entry-point for fellow adventurers and fundraisers.

THE THREE (MAIN) METHODS

CREATING A SOCIETY

Difficulty - Medium

Starting something from scratch can seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. Last year’s Challenge Leader of the Year, Dylan (UCC), managed to start running challenges from Cork’s Pharmacy Society. Not only does this save the hassle of creating a new society, but the entire existing audience of the society is retained.

“PharmSoc allows us to have access to all the University’s services and facilities. It provides a foundation of support for challenge teams and ensures PharmSoc continues to build communities and have an impact on students” - Dylan Burke (UCC)

In order to entrench challenges fully, however, you’ll want to follow the lead of Jack Galloway (Huddersfield). Jack went from leading a Bilbao Marathon team in 2019 to now being founder and president of the University of Huddersfield’s Challenges Society, which now runs three separate challenges. Read all about Jack’s story in his blog here.

To get started setting up a society, simply get in touch with your university’s Activities officer (usually a Sabbatical role) or Student’s Union representative and they’ll point you in the right direction of your university’s processes. All you’ll need is a few friends or team-mates to fill some committee roles and you’ll be good to go!

“Over the first few months the society grew from the 7 original members to a remarkable 138 members…we have tripled our fundraising output year-on-year” - Jack Galloway (University of Huddersfield)

REFER-A-LEADER *NEW*

Difficulty - Easy

A brand new process we’re very excited about: refer-a-leader! Earn some sweet sweet bucks simply for introducing one of your friends to us. If they confirm a challenge with us and register, you’ll earn an easy £50. If they go on to recruit over 10 participants for an overseas trek, you’ll earn a sweet £100. Easy as relaxing on the beaches of Zanzibar!

Our refer-a-leader form is NOW OPEN and will remain open until 31st May. However, the earlier the better! Spaces are limited for our Challenge Leader positions and we’re very keen to get our new leaders on board in the next month.

UTILISE YOUR TEAM

Difficulty - Very Easy

Utilising your team means reaching out and seeing if anyone has been inspired by your position as Challenge Leader. I’ve written very easy - this is of course conditional on the size and engagement of your team. Got a really keen fundraiser? Someone seems like they want to get involved next year? Ask them to get in touch with us and we can get the ball rolling with on-boarding them as a 2021 Challenge Leader!

We’ve got a bunch of graphics and videos you can use to spur any keen beans on - find them here.

We’ll be releasing the all-important Challenge Confirmation Form - the form you’ll use to confirm your 2021 challenges - on 1st May, giving you ample time to get cracking with the above!

If you’ve any questions in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to pop us a line at team@chooseachallenge.com.
